Our music program has been an important feature of Orbost Secondary College for many years. The community takes great pride in our ability to provide an excellent music program. An established instrumental program has provided our students with the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments.
Instruments currently offered include woodwind (flute, oboe, clarinet, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone), brass (trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium, tuba), bass guitar and percussion. Vocalists, guitarists and pianists are also invited to participate in our ensemble program.
Students in the program attend an instrumental music Iesson each week and allocated to at least one of our college Bands. The college also offers the instrumental program for local primary school students in grades 5 and 6, with those students also participating in the college bands.
Ms Sue Taylor, Instrumental Music Director, and supporting music staff conduct auditions and regular band/choir rehearsals before and after school and during lunchtimes.
In addition, we offer a supporting classroom music subject for year 9 & 10 students interested in pursuing music at a higher level. We also offer VCE Solo/Group Performance for advanced senior students.
East Gippsland Music Festival
This is an annual event that includes all music students from state schools in East Gippsland. Over a week-long program students attend workshops and rehearsals of Combined Junior, Intermediate and Senior Concert Bands and String Orchestra which culminates in a Gala Concert Performance.
In 2017, it was Orbost Secondary College’s pleasure to very successfully host this event.
