Sports Program

Orbost Secondary College organises and runs three inter-house sports carnivals every year. The swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals are always fun events, with a good dose of healthy house camaraderie and competition!

The three college house names are Snowy, Rocky and Yeerung – all references to rivers of this area.

Students have the opportunity to compete at higher levels of competition, depending on their results from the inter-house carnivals. Many of our students progress to District, Regional or State levels of competition.

Swimming

The swimming carnival is held during Term 1 at the Orbost outdoor pool. This event is well represented by school students and staff and also the wider community.

Athletics

The athletics carnival is held during Term 2 on the college campus. This gives students the opportunity to compete in a range of track and field events including high jump, discus, shotput, javelin and various running races.

Cross Country

The cross country is held during Term 3. The junior school cross country, (Years 7 - 8), is held both on the school grounds and on adjoining property and covers 3kms. The senior school cross country, (Years 9 -12), is largely ran off campus with the course finishing on the college grounds. This course covers 5kms.

Inter-school Sports

Inter-school sports are also offered at Orbost Secondary College with a range of both summer and winter sporting options. These sports are held against other local schools from the area. Some of the inter-school sports include basketball, football, netball, tennis, hockey and cricket. These sports create an excellent opportunity for our students to be involved in teams and to work on leadership, communication and interpersonal skills away from the college.
