Sports Program

Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country

Orbost Secondary College organises and runs 3 inter-house sports carnivals every year. The four house names at the College are Lind, Cameron, MacMillan and Rowe. The swimming carnival is held during term 1, generally in the first few weeks of the term at the Orbost YMCA 50m outdoor pool and is well represented by the students but also the wider community.

The Athletics carnival is held during term 2 on the College campus. This gives students the opportunity to compete in a range of track and field events including high jump, discus, javelin and 1500m.

Cross Country

The cross country is held during term3 and is run over two separate days. The junior school cross country, year 7 and 8, is held both on the school grounds and an adjoining property. The course roughly covers 3kms. The senior school cross country, year 9 -12, is held off campus with the course finishing on the College ground’s. The course covers 5.5kms for the boys and 4kms for the girls.

Students then have the opportunity to compete at a higher level, depending on their results from the inter-house carnivals. The next level of completion is held as a wider but still local level. Students can then progress to the south east conference of Gippsland and then finally the opportunity to compete at a State level.

Inter-school Sports

Inter-school sports are also offered at Orbost Secondary College with a range of both summer and winter sports. These sports are held against other local schools from the area. With winning teams then competing against regional schools and finally at a State level.
Some of the inter-school sports include basketball, football, netball, tennis, hockey and cricket. These sports create an excellent opportunity for our students to be involved in teams and to work on leadership, communication and inter-personals skills away from the College.
